How to Avoid Rust on Bearing Rings
(1) Due to the large amount of moisture in the air, when the relative humidity exceeds 70%, a thin layer of moisture adsorption film that is difficult to see with the naked eye will be adsorbed on the surface of the smooth part. When the humidity increases or the temperature decreases, it will condense in the form of dew droplets on the surface of the part. Continued condensation can form a thin layer of water film. In this case, the bearing collar will quickly rust.
(2) Bearing rings are heat treated with salt baths for fire control. In future grinding processes, residual salt on the surface of parts may also rust if not thoroughly removed. In addition, when grinding parts with residual salt, the salt will dissolve in the cutting fluid, causing the cutting fluid to deteriorate. During grinding, parts are directly affected by the cutting fluid, causing corrosion.
(3) In summer, when a person's hand comes into contact with the bearing collar, it will leave sweat on the surface of the part. Sweat is an aqueous solution composed of salt and organic acids such as acetic acid and lactic acid. Once touched by someone's hand, it is easy to rust if not handled promptly. The air contains a lot of exhaust gas and harmful acidic gases generated by dirt. Under humid conditions, various inorganic acids will be generated after contact with water, which can cause rust on the bearing rings. Failure to thoroughly clean the remaining acid on the parts after burns can also cause corrosion rust.
(4) Washing hands, rags, or other filth in cutting fluid can easily cause the cutting fluid to deteriorate and lose its anti-corrosion effect. Causing corrosion of the bearing ring.
(5) Dust and impurities are media that promote corrosion, as they are generally hygroscopic. When encountering moisture in the air, it condenses into tiny water droplets that deposit on the metal and form corrosion. Therefore, the cleaning work in the workshop is also one of the anti-corrosion measures for bearing ring production.
(6) Comply with the operating procedures for rust prevention, and the foundation of the warehouse where bearing rings are stored should be high to prevent water from accumulating in the warehouse. The warehouse should be kept clean, and the corresponding humidity should be controlled at 45% to 60%, with a maximum of 70%. The indoor temperature should be controlled between 10 and 25 degrees, not higher than 30 degrees. Otherwise, the bearing rings in stock are prone to rust.
