What is the difference between the bearing retainer sleeve and the bearing withdrawal sleeve and how to correctly install the bearing

Tighten the round nut against the bearing by tightening the set sleeve, while the reverse is true for removing the sleeve. The specific implementation method is that the thread opening position is different: the tightening sleeve is at the thin position, while the withdrawing sleeve is at the thick position.

The tightening sleeve is the most commonly used component for positioning bearings with tapered holes on cylindrical shafts, as it can be used for optical or stepped shafts. This shaft sleeve is easy to install and does not require additional fixation on the shaft. When using a locking sleeve on the optical shaft, the bearing can be positioned anywhere on the shaft. When used together with a stepped ring on a stepped shaft, the bearing can be accurately positioned axially, and it also facilitates the removal of the bearing.

The tightening sleeve is used to fix tapered hole self-aligning bearings (self-aligning ball bearings, self-aligning roller bearings) on a shoulderless shaft. It has a simple structure, reliable operation, and convenient bearing replacement. It is widely used in industries such as textile, light industry, papermaking, metallurgy, belt transportation, and transportation equipment.

1、 Preparation before installation

Before installing the bearing, carefully clean and properly handle the mounting surfaces of the tightening sleeve and the withdrawal sleeve, without sharp corners or burrs. If any protruding parts are found, they should be promptly polished with professional sandpaper to avoid mutual wear between the bearing and the shaft, which may affect the assembly accuracy. The friction surfaces on the shaft that pass through should be fully coated with grease.

After finishing and reaching the standard, the inner diameter and outer diameter of the axial opening are floating dimensions due to the gravity of the material and a small amount of stress in the material. Sometimes, the floating dimension of the inner diameter is larger than the standard size, which does not affect assembly. However, when the floating dimension is smaller than the standard size, a support block should be placed at the opening for assembly to control the inner hole size to be larger than the standard size before assembly. When the fastening sleeve and the withdrawal sleeve are initially installed to the predetermined position, the support block at the opening must be removed before the locking assembly can be carried out.

Pay attention to selecting a suitable tightening sleeve based on the bearing. There are many types of tight sets sold on the market, and prices vary depending on the model and brand. If the adapter sleeve needs to be replaced, it must be selected based on the model, size, and brand of the bearing. This way, the purchased set sleeve is only suitable, and there will be no problem of wear and mutual adhesion of the set sleeve.

2、 Installation steps

1. Apply grease to the inner diameter, outer diameter, threads, and large end faces of the locking sleeve and the release sleeve.

2. Assemble the fastening sleeve or withdrawal sleeve and the bearing together, initially lock them with a lock nut or hydraulic nut, and inject high-pressure oil into the end face (one oil hole for the fastening sleeve and two oil holes for the withdrawal sleeve) using a hand pump.

3. Use the lock nut to lock to adjust the bearing clearance. After adjusting the clearance, directly lock it or use the hydraulic nut to install the bearing. To adjust the clearance, remove the hydraulic nut and then lock it with the lock nut.

3、 Disassembly steps

1. When disassembling the fastening sleeve and withdrawal sleeve, apply grease to the threads on the fastening sleeve and withdrawal sleeve. Remove the nut and apply grease to the end face where the bearing contacts.

2. Inject high-pressure oil into the oil hole on the end face of the tightening sleeve or withdrawal sleeve with the hand oil pump. Under the action of high-pressure oil, forcefully rotate the disassembly nut or hydraulic nut to pressurize, so as to withdraw the tightening sleeve or withdrawal sleeve. (Removal of the fastening sleeve requires a threaded mounting nut at the shaft end as a fixing point.)

Removal of the sleeve bearing requires not only the use of a bearing remover, but also attention to some parts of the sleeve bearing for easy and simple removal. If you do not pay attention to these parts, the bearing may also be damaged. The following are precautions for disassembling the bearing on the disassembly sleeve: When disassembling the bearing on the disassembly sleeve, the axial locking device, such as the locking nut and end cap, must be removed. When disassembling small and medium-sized bearings, you can use lock nuts and hook wrench tools or impact wrench tools to loosen the bearings.

A better way to disassemble large bearings is to use hydraulic nuts. If the threaded portion of the shaft sleeve protrudes from the shaft end or shoulder, a support ring should be inserted into the sleeve hole, and the wall of the support ring should be as thick as possible to avoid causing thread deformation and damage when tightening the nut when using hydraulic pressure. It is recommended to add a barrier to the hydraulic nut end, such as through the shaft end. If the withdrawal sleeve suddenly separates from its shaft seat, a barrier can be used to prevent the withdrawal sleeve and hydraulic nut from completely withdrawing from the shaft. The removal sleeve used for large bearings generally has an oil distribution groove to facilitate the use of the oil filling method, greatly reducing the time required for installing and removing large bearings.

4、 What is the difference between a set sleeve and a release sleeve?

Tensioning and dismounting sleeves are generally suitable for large bearings. The tightening sleeve is used to tighten the round nut and tighten the bearing, while the removal sleeve is opposite. The original intention of the tightening and dismounting sleeves is to facilitate the installation and disassembly of bearings, improve efficiency, and reduce the maintenance cost of machinery. In general, it means using a fastening sleeve for ease of installation, and using a detachable sleeve for ease of disassembly. The use of both the release sleeve and the locking sleeve can achieve the effect of adjusting the internal clearance.

The locking sleeve is convenient for adjusting the axial position and positioning of the bearing, and has good self-locking performance. The use of an optical shaft avoids the stress concentration phenomenon existing in the stepped shaft, which is beneficial for use in situations with heavy load transmission or impact vibration. Although the structure of this type of bearing device is simple, it can only achieve satisfactory results under the premise of correct installation and maintenance. Otherwise, it will be too late and even counterproductive.
